About me
I have been editing and proofreading academic materials for nearly twenty years. I specialise in arts and humanities publications and work both with publishers and with individual authors. I am also a tutor for the CIEP and currently the training director.
My previous career was as the curator of a university museum, and I am a published academic author.
I was a choral scholar at Clare College, Cambridge, was a long-term member of the Cambridge Taverner Choir and now sing with several semi-professional choirs in the Northeast: the Durham Cathedral Consort of Singers, Northern Spirit Singers and Yorkshire Voices.
I have a good level of French and German, and basic Spanish, Italian and Latin.

Testimonials
Hester’s approach to her work is intelligent and sensitive. Authors are always grateful for the improvements she makes to their text. And she sets the highest standards of competency and reliability, so we as publishers are happy too.
(Sally Salvesen, Yale University Press)
Everything I send Hester’s way is beautifully and carefully edited, with the utmost attention to detail, and a sensitive and humane approach to writing and authors. I have been working with different editors for over three years now, but Hester has been exceptional. It is a pleasure to work with her and I trust her with all my projects. I can only highly recommend her impeccable work.
(Harvard University academic)
